DST-FIST Level 1 grant for Mechanical Engineering department at UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh for setting up Centre for Biomechanical Engineering and Medical Devices
FIST Level 1 grant of Rs. 123.0 Lacs was sanctioned to Mechanical Engineering Department of UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh in the year 2020 for setting up a facility of 5 axis vertical CNC milling machine for design and manufacturing of metal based implants.
Department has successfully procured and commissioned this machine in the department in the year 2023. Since then students and faculty have been working on developing metal parts and conducting workshops/programs for upskilling of technical staff, students and faculty.
This project will benefit the institute and University immensely with upgradation of infrastructure and facilities related to high end manufacturing, software modelling and material designing. Undergraduate, postgraduate students and research scholars across different engineering disciplines will be using these facilities for upgrading their employability skills and will be encouraged to initiate start-ups in this novel area. This will enable highly skilled human resource generation across the region. Nearby hospitals and manufacturing industry will collaborate with the department for designing and manufacturing of implants for serving cost-effective reconstruction medical solutions to the society. New design courses and PG programs in collaboration with academia, hospitals and industry will also be introduced.
